Private Adult Autism Assessments by Experienced NHS Clinicians
If you've found yourself wondering whether autism could explain your experiences, you're not alone.
Many adults spend years feeling different, misunderstood or exhausted from trying to navigate a world that doesn't always make sense to them. Some have learned to mask their differences, while others have struggled with relationships, employment, education or their mental wellbeing without understanding why.
For many people, receiving an autism diagnosis provides something they have been searching for throughout their lives—understanding.
At Autism Insight, we provide comprehensive private adult autism assessments delivered by experienced NHS clinicians who specialise in neurodevelopmental assessments. Our multidisciplinary team follows NICE guidance and uses recognised, evidence-based assessment tools to ensure every assessment is thorough, compassionate and clinically robust.
We understand that seeking an assessment can feel like a significant step. Our role is to provide a supportive, respectful and neuro-affirming assessment that helps you understand yourself better, regardless of the outcome.
Book NowWhy seek an adult autism assessment?
There is no single reason why adults seek an autism assessment.
Some people have suspected they may be autistic for many years. Others only begin questioning after a child or family member receives a diagnosis, or after learning more about autism through work, education or social media.
You may recognise some of these experiences:
- Feeling different from other people throughout your life.
- Finding social situations confusing or exhausting.
- Needing time alone to recover after social interaction.
- Feeling overwhelmed by noise, lights, crowds or busy environments.
- Preferring routine and predictability.
- Finding unexpected changes particularly stressful.
- Having intense interests or hobbies.
- Masking your natural behaviours to fit in.
- Experiencing autistic burnout.
- Wanting a better understanding of yourself and your needs.
Seeking an assessment is not about "finding something wrong". It is about gaining a clearer understanding of how your brain works and whether autism best explains your lifelong experiences.

Life after diagnosis
Receiving an autism diagnosis can be life-changing.
For many adults, it provides validation, self-understanding and an explanation for experiences that may have previously felt confusing.
A diagnosis can also support conversations around reasonable adjustments in the workplace or education and help identify strategies that better suit your individual needs.
At Autism Insight, we also offer post-diagnostic support to help you make sense of your diagnosis and move forward with confidence.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a GP referral?
No. You can refer yourself directly to Autism Insight.
How long does the assessment process take?
We aim to complete the assessment process within approximately four weeks, depending on appointment availability and the return of pre-assessment information.
Will my report be accepted?
Our assessments follow NICE guidance and are completed by experienced clinicians using recognised assessment methods. Many clients use their reports to support discussions with their GP, employer, university or other relevant organisations. Other services have accepted all of our assessments.
What if I am not diagnosed with autism?
Our role is to provide an objective, evidence-based assessment. If autism is not the most appropriate explanation for your experiences, we will explain our clinical reasoning and provide recommendations where appropriate.

"The assessment from start to finish was handled sensitively and thoroughly. The service provided by Jodie and Emily was second to none. They were always at hand with any queries that I had regarding the assessment process as a whole. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The assessment was comprehensive, and both Jodie and Emily showed great professionalism throughout the process. The information that I was given throughout the whole process was accurate and concise. Both my son and I felt comfortable during the assessment process, and the information provided during the post-assessment visit was greatly detailed and very informative. Also, the in-depth discussion that involved the family as a whole regarding the outcome of the report and the diagnosis was very informative and very thorough. We are extremely grateful to both Jodie and Emily for providing us with an excellent service and would have no hesitation in recommending them to others".
